Captian of the Guard

Another commissioned I had done by again excellent work on his part, it's exactly how I imagined it. This is for an Vampire themed MMORPG idea that I have called 7th Night. This time the concept is for the Captain of the Guard for the Guardians of the Way. One of the 7 religious sects that were present during the crucifixion of Christ. The background story is given below. Hope you guys like it!

Guardians of the Way

On the day that Christ was crucified, it is recorded that Pontius Pilate did not agree with the sentence that the crowd had given, yet he did what they wanted and had the self-proclaimed “Son of the Most High” sent to his death. At that time the heads of 7 different factions were there. The Guardians of the Way was one of them, the roman security detail that escorted Christ down what was named the Via Dolorosa or the “Way of Grief”. Contrary to popular belief, the Roman guards that escorted Christ were heavily against the death sentence and in their hearts had already converted to his teachings and beliefs. Along the path were nine markers, now known as the Stations of the Cross. At each marker the guards silently swore an oath to carry on the work of Christ and to safeguard his teachings until his return no matter what it took. When the guards were done hanging Christ from the Cross, the heads of the factions silently gathered in a semi circle at his foot and bowed their heads. With his final breath, Christ assigned each of the faction heads a duty that they were to carry out until his return and warned them of the Children of Cain and that while they waited for him to return, they would face many trials and tribulations. To the Captain of the Guard he gave the duty to protect “those who do not see or understand, and keep them so”. With that he ordered the Captain to pierce his side with his spear so that he may give him the power they would need for the coming battles. The Captain did as he was told and pierced the side of his lord, and as the blood began to flow down the haft of his spear, the blood began to move down towards the arm of the Captain as if somehow it was alive. When it reached the Captains arm, the Captain felt an overwhelming sense of peace and tranquility and also a surge of power and strength. The flowing blood disappeared and formed a mark on his wrist in the shape of a cross, in his mind he could hear the voice of Christ saying “any who bears my mark shall be blessed and protected against his children…” His spear that was in his hand felt incredibly light as if he were able to wield with one hand, and again he heard the voice of Christ say “ those who choose to defend the weak and the righteous in my name can call upon me in their time need. And just as my father’s power flows thru me, so does my power flow thru them…” with that the Captain picked up his spear and threw it at a wall that was nearly 500 ft away, the spear exploded with power on impact. The Captain stared in awe as did the others and when he thought about losing his weapon it reappeared in his hand, glowing with a light that was indescribable. The Captain and his guards fell to their knees with tears in their eyes as the storm clouds rolled in overhead and the peals of thunder in the distance. Christ had finally given up his ghost…
